honestly do not think Dumbledore is gay. JKR should have wrote it into the books if it was true. Her saying it after the series was completed kind of made it seem like a ploy to attract more readers.

Dumbledore was very private with his own life just because he is gay doesn’t mean he had to go around waving rainbow flags all the time. It is in the book or did you miss that whole relationship?

God forbid she skip all the rainbow colored clothing and explicit sex scenes that my people use to identify ourselves in real life. I mean ITS NOT LIKE WE AREN’T THE SAME AS EVERYONE ELSE.

There are ways to present actual, canonly LGBTQ+ people without showers of offensive stereotypes. God forbid some of us LGBTQ+ fans actually want some REAL fucking representation.

Yes, Dumbledore is gay. Word of god. Blah Blah Blah. But if you think that the way that shit was fumbled isn’t gross and problematic as shit, then I don’t even know what to say to that bullshit.

In my mind, Dumbledore being gay isn’t real representation. Because we don’t hear about it. No one ever mentions it. And when it’s implied, it’s wrapped up in some pretty awful stuff about his past, which makes it seem kind of shitty and weird.

None of the other professors ever talk about their personal lives. EVER. It would be idiotic for Dumbledore to talk about his sexual orientation or relationships when it was not considered appropriate for any other staff members to do so.

I certainly understand Rowling’s choice not to mention it. However, people sometimes use Dumbledore as an example of queer representation, and he simply isn’t. That’s what bothers me. She doesn’t get brownie points for mentioning after the fact that one person in her books was gay.

SHE never claimed to use to Dumbledore as any sort of representation. Not once. She clearly doesn’t want “brownie points”. What a stupid thing to think. She released the fact that Dumbledore was gay ALONG WITH A TON OF OTHER UNRELEASED CONTENT FROM THE BOOKS. Things that didn’t have ROOM to be included. She didn’t tell people Dumbledore was gay for fucking brownie points. She told people because fans WANTED to know more about the characters and the Harry Potter world. I am so done with people saying she did that for “brownie points” when that was obviously not what she was doing at all.

Oh yeah, because THAT makes the complete erasure of the LGBTQ+ community within the novels LESS shitty? No.

It is an embarrassment that in a series that proclaims to be about LOVE and TOLERANCE to not have a single god damn LGBTQ+ character in the novels. It is a failure. It’s shitty and problematic and marginalizing to LGBTQ+ fans.

And for the record: We DO know about the love lives of the professors. -points to Snape, Hagrid, and Madame Maxine- Your heteronormative queer-erasure apologetics are paper thin and shitty.

if JK Rowling had actually wanted to be inclusive, she could have so easily just thrown in a casual queer person or same-sex relationship. There was tons of romance- woulda been soups easy to have made Fleur a dude or something.
